The best gifts are always those that can’t be wrapped up in paper, those that mean giving something of ourselves and are based on feelings and/or something deep inside us. This week, we at Moonz would like to remind everyone of the people who almost never get presents at Christmas time – or any other day of the year for that matter. Also, we would like our patients – even the youngest among them – to know that Christmas is a time for solidarity and generosity.
That is why we and our patients have begun collaborating with the Harambee project. For several months now, the children have been donating a portion of their “Moonz points” as a gift of solidarity to those who are less fortunate. For every ten Moonz points donated, the Moonz clinics gave one euro to Harambee. In this way, our young patients were able to take part in the initiative and dedicate their own personal efforts, since Moonz points are given to those who have worked to care for their health. In other words, they have taken their own good habits and turned them into improved healthcare and educational conditions for other children through the projects organised by Harambee, bringing continents – and values – together.
Harambee is an NGO that operates initiatives in a number of countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Harambee means “everyone pulling together” in Swahili, and this is the philosophy of the organisation, which seeks to foster direct local involvement in the projects in their communities and raise awareness among the rest of the world to promote a positive and hopeful vision of the African continent. That is a vision we want to be part of.
In The Lion King, Timon and Pumbaa taught Simba to sing “Hakuna Matata” (no worries) in Swahili. At Moonz Orthodontics, we want you to join us in singing “Harambee”: everyone pulling together, because when we all give, we all get something back too.
